What Causes Sleep Terror Disorder?
The main causes of sleep terror disorder remains unknown but most researchers hypothesized that the following are contributing causable factors for sleep terror disorder to occur:
Stress (physical, emotional, mental)
Lack of sleep
Delayed maturation of the central nervous system
The night terror usually occurs within the 3rd and 4th stage of sleep (deep sleep) and why the sleep terror disorder is triggered during this stage of sleep remains to be unknown. The significant difference with night terror disorder from nightmares is that it occurs usually in the first half of the night while nightmares usually occur in the early morning. 3
