The diagnostic efficiency of borderline personality disorder was examined in adolescent inpatients and with adult inpatients to compare the criterion. It is found that there are no significant differences with base rates and criterion. For adolescents, the fear of being abandoned is the best inclusion criterion as well as with adults in this observation, while the most efficient exclusion criterion was uncontrolled anger for the adolescents and impulsiveness for the adults. Although symptoms of BPD are common with both inpatient adolescents and adults, there are also some differences at the intensity of the diagnostic efficiency for the criteria of borderline personality disorder in an individual. 11
